Child Care Subsidy

(CCS)

WHAT IS CHILD CARE SUBSIDY ?

The Commonwealth Government’s Child Care Subsidy (CCS) aims to simplify and make high-quality childcare more affordable for families. Effectively utilising the subsidy is key to extending the time your child spends in care, thereby supporting essential learning and development. This financial assistance is intended to cover childcare costs, and the amount you receive depends on various factors, including your family's income, your child's age, and the paid or unpaid activities your family is involved in, such as your job or volunteer work. Additional support may be available to certain families, such as grandparents and great-grandparents, as well as those facing temporary financial hardships. The CCS is directly paid to providers, reducing the fees that families need to cover.

  • You may be eligible if you or your partner meet all of the following:

    • care for a child 13 years old or younger who is not attending secondary school, unless an exemption applies

    • Use an approved child care service

    • Be responsible for paying child care fees

    • Meet residency and immunisation requirements.

  • The amount of CCS received by each family is dependant on:

    • Combined family income

    • The hours of ‘recognised’ activity both parents undertake each fortnight

    • The number and age of children in approved care

    • The hourly rate cap based on the type of approved care used.

  • CCS can be claimed over the phone or online via Centrelink online account linked to myGov.

Is it complicated to add a CCS calculator to the website?
